[PROJECT 3] CONCEPT 2

Inspiration:
(KUMO baby crib)

Design Concept:

Combining bench and playground slide in one furniture with the design concept like the image above. the design will have 4 level where people can seat on the first to the third level and the slide is located in the forth level. The height of each level is 400mm. there will be a small 200mm step on each level to help little kid to climb to top.
for the safety there will be handrail along the steps to the slide to prevent kids climbing from the left and right side. thus, if the kids want to play the slide they have to use the stairs.

SIZE: 4level
height each level 400mm
top level 300mm (total 1500mm)
length 3050mm
wide max 1400

MATERIAL:

[PROJECT 3] Peers Feedback - 2

Summer Chao:

I really like the function of the leg part, which allows users to seat at different gesture and heights. And the shape of seat provides users with a private space while still allowing them to interact with other people. I think you can do more research on the methods to ensure the joint strong and safe.

Tutor Feedback (Tom)
- how the chair fix into the ground
- LED location
- Put few chair there. if  a group of people wanted to talk in a group

[PROJECT 3] STREET FURNITURE CONCEPT

ROCKING CHAIR:
THE MORE YOU ROCK THE BRIGHTER IT GETS

MATERIAL:
FIBREGLASS
-Strong and long-lasting:. Fiberglass has a high resistance to corrosion, it will not rust.  Perfect for products used outside, in states near the ocean, with the high salt content in the air and UV protections.Unlike metal, plastic, and wood; fiberglass has the least expansion and contraction with heat, cold and/or stress
-Appearance: Using fiberglass for product covers and enclosures definitely improves its esthetics.  Achieve any look and feel desired.  Finishes give fiberglass components a high tech appearance.
-Cost Effectiveness:Lower costs for maintenance and warranty work.  A lighter and stronger product results in lower costs for shipping and storage.

-Special Characteristics: Fiberglass is non-conductive and radio frequency transparent

[PROJECT 3] PEERS FEEDBACK

Felicia Sutandar:
- For the first concept, I like how you integrate the light into the bench. I think, with the light alone it is enough to prevent people to sleep on it at night. So, the separator is not really necessary

Julie Hyemi Chung:
- I like the 3rd concept,it is good idea that the LED bench works with Solar power. but i think the bench should be more gathered together. because the park you've researched is mainly used for kids, and kids like to sit together. so it might be better to place more benches together :) other than this, the shape size looks great :)!

Tutor Feed back (Tom)
- create something interactive for kids
- see how kids interactions while playing in playground

[PROJECT 2] GREEN GIFTING - WINE RACK

 -POSTER-

-TECHNICAL DRAWING-

-RATIONALE-

PVC PIPE WINE RACK

The wine rack is made out of PVC pipes cut off collected from construction building site. The material chosen is PVC pipe because it is strong, durable and suitable for all types of long-term applications. The PVC pipe wine rack that is on the market is already assembled and big. However, this wine rack can handle up to six wine bottles that can last for long period of time and the user can rearrange the form of the rack to fit into their available space for it places. This wine rack is designed for target audience aged 20-35 who loves or collects wine, household, and the rack is also suitable for housewarming gift. The rack can be disassembled and arranged in to different forms. Each part will be joined together with small piece clips of PVC pipe cuts that will hold the tube from moving away. The wine rack can be dismantled to fit more products in a shipping container. In the packaging box, it will come with 4 tubes, four pieces of sliced pipes and 14mm clips and 30mm clips. The assembled dimension of the wine rack is 270mm x 220mm x 230mm and the diameter of the pipe is 110mm; it fits for different range sizes of wine bottles.
For the manufacturing process, firstly use fine PVC pipe from construction building cut off with no crack. The pipe might be dirty; they have to be cleaned before measuring the tube and cut them into pieces with using bench saw. This PVC pipe doesn’t require paint on.

The Okala ecological design strategies applied:
1.     Minimize number of components / material: The pipe racks that are already on the market are using screw to attach the pipes. However, for this rack is using small piece of pipe cut off to attach each part.
2.     Reduce product and packaging volume: The rack can be dismantled for shipping.
3.     Design for durability: PVC pipes have high resistance to impact damage
4.     Design for second life with different function: PVC pipe is usually used for plumbing.
5.     Design for fast and manual disassembly: The rack can be disassembled by removing the small joint.
