PVC PIPE WINE RACK
The wine rack is made out of PVC pipes cut off collected from
construction building site. The material chosen is PVC pipe because it is strong,
durable and suitable for all types of long-term applications. The PVC pipe wine
rack that is on the market is already assembled and big. However, this wine
rack can handle up to six wine bottles that can last for long period of time
and the user can rearrange the form of the rack to fit into their available
space for it places. This wine rack is designed for target audience aged 20-35
who loves or collects wine, household, and the rack is also suitable for housewarming
gift. The rack can be disassembled and arranged in to different forms. Each
part will be joined together with small piece clips of PVC pipe cuts that will
hold the tube from moving away. The wine rack can be dismantled to fit more
products in a shipping container. In the packaging box, it will come with 4
tubes, four pieces of sliced pipes and 14mm clips and 30mm clips. The assembled
dimension of the wine rack is 270mm x 220mm x 230mm and the diameter of the
pipe is 110mm; it fits for different range sizes of wine bottles.
For the manufacturing process, firstly use fine PVC pipe from
construction building cut off with no crack. The pipe might be dirty; they have
to be cleaned before measuring the tube and cut them into pieces with using
bench saw. This PVC pipe doesn’t require paint on.
The Okala ecological design strategies applied:
1.
Minimize
number of components / material: The pipe racks that are already on the market
are using screw to attach the pipes. However, for this rack is using small
piece of pipe cut off to attach each part.
2.
Reduce
product and packaging volume: The rack can be dismantled for shipping.
3.
Design
for durability: PVC pipes have high resistance to impact damage
4.
Design
for second life with different function: PVC pipe is usually used for plumbing.
5.
Design
for fast and manual disassembly: The rack can be disassembled by removing the
small joint.
